Bed Bugs
"Goodnight, sleep tight,
don't let the bedbugs bite!"
Was always my mother's saying
as she tucked me into bed.
I would lay awake
wondering what she meant.
Then, when I finally drifted off to sleep,
I had the strangest dreams.
I would dream of battling bedbugs.
Some nights the bedbugs in my dreams
were real tiny and I had to use
a magnifying glass to see them.
I would sit on my bed
and squash the bed bugs
with my hand.
Other nights I would dream
that the bedbugs were human size
and I would battle them
with a sword and shield.
I would fight off hundreds at a time
so that they wouldn't bite me.
So, each night,
"goodnight, sleep tight,
don't let the bedbugs bite,"
and off to sleep I would go.
Dreaming of bedbugs,
bedbugs everywhere.
Big ones, small ones,
fat ones, tall ones,
all kinds of bedbugs.
Different colors
and different shapes.
Then, one night,
my mother tucked me in
and all she said was
"Goodnight, sleep tight,
I love you."
That night, I slept
without any dreams of bedbugs.
I think there are finally
no more bedbugs to fight.
Goodnight!
