Frog on a Log

"Good morning," said the caterpillar
to the little frog.
"Hello right back to you,
come join me on my log."
"Oh no," said the caterpillar,
"you'll have me for your lunch."
"I may be a little thing,
but I make a great big crunch."
"Oh my," said the frog,
"I wouldn't think of it."
"Please, just for a little while,
join me and sit."
"We can chat, we can laugh,
I know we'll make great friends."
"We'll float along, enjoy the sun,
spend the day until it ends."
"Well," said the caterpillar,
"you make it sound delightful."
"But I know that I still need to be
very, very careful."
"I would like to chat with you,"
said the caterpillar to the frog.
Then very cautiously she joined him
upon the floating log.
They enjoyed the sites and laughed together
as the log floated along.
They chattered and they gossiped,
and they even sang a song.
The sun had set, their journey was over
it was time to go on home.
They reminisced about their day
and composed a happy poem.
"Goodnight," said the frog,
"do come back again soon."
"Next time we can float along
under the light of the moon.
"Goodnight my new friend,"
said the caterpillar to the little frog.
"Thank you for a lovely day
upon your floating log."
