If I Were a Tree

If I were a tree
reaching tall toward the sky
I would call to the birds
who are all flying by

I would invite them to come
sit among all my leaves
enjoy a minute or two
of a soft summer breeze

If I were a tree
reaching branches out wide
I would call to the squirrels
to come play by my side

I would laugh at their chatter
watch them scurry around
watch them play hide and seek
without making a sound

If I were a tree
my roots deep in the ground
I would chat with the worms
who are squirming around

They help make the soil
rich with good things for me
so I can grow and grow
and be a big tree

If I were a tree
standing tall and so true
I would call to the children
but not forget you

I would provide shelter
and a nice place to play
so you can laugh and be carefree
all of the day

If I were a tree
I'd be noble and proud
and if I could
I'd shout it out loud

I am solid and strong
proud to be me
a friend to all creatures
I AM A TREE!
